| Mastitis treatment
Mastitis is the inflammation of breast tissue. Although mastitis often occurs during breastfeeding or weaning when milk ducts become blocked it can occur at any time. When the infection is unrelated to breastfeeding it is referred to as puerperal mastitis. Milder cases of mastitis during breastfeeding are called breast engorgement. Engorgement, mastitis or any breast infection during pregnancy can leads to periods of not being able to breast feed. The baby can get used to bottle feeding and may not want to latch again and it is therefore advisable to treat the infection as quickly as possible. With anti-biotics the mother has to stop breastfeeding, so acupuncture is a good alternative as the mother can continue breastfeeding. Acupuncture can also treat various(non-cancerous) lump-forming or painful infections of the breast tissue. As acupuncture is a non-invasive and holistic treatment it may be preferable to having to cut out any lumps and/or strong doses of anti-biotics.
