What is the aim of this course?
Tai Chi Chuan is an Artform. It's depth and application is infinite and to master it will take many years, if not most of your lifetime. One cannot begin to grasp what Tai Chi is or what it is like practicing it within a few lessons. The first few weeks one is still wondering where to place your arms and feet.
Imagine you have lived your entire life in a rainforest and have never seen a car before. The first few lessons is like someone showing you a picture of a car. When you can start stringing some movements together it is like getting in an actual car. Learning the form is like learning to drive. When you become more proficient and still your thoughts it is like going on a road trip and discovering the rest of the world.
The aim of this course is give students the skill to 'drive' and find out what the potential for Tai Chi is. Only then can one make an informed decision if you would like to continue with Tai Chi Chuan.
Who is this course aimed at?
This course is aimed at people that are sincere about learning Tai Chi and are prepared to persevere at least for a year to get a foundation in it. It is not aimed at those with a casual or fickle interest in it. There are many other school's that offer single classes for people with a casual interest.
Because Tai Chi is graceful and consists of slow movement, a common misconception is that there is very little exercise envolved in Tai Chi. This couldn't be further from the truth and first time students are often surprized when they start sweating and have stiff legs the following day.
Anyone can learn Tai Chi, however it doesn't mean it's easy. Like all worthwhile endevours in life you will need to show some commitment and perseverance if you want learn Tai Chi. When people try Tai Chi one week and Yoga the next and Golfing the following .etc, no real understanding or experience is gained in any of the practices. It is useless to the person and disruptive and demoralizing to other students that are comitted to learning an artform.
